IOF Fire Two Flechette Shells at a House in Gaza City

8-12-2010

At approximately 11:40am on Wednesday 8 December 2010, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired two artillery shells at residential houses east of the Al Sheja'ia neighborhood east of Gaza City. One of the shells fell in an open area west of Karni crossing. The second shell fell on a house owned by Mas'oud Abdel Aziz Sha'ban As-Sirsawi, 47. The house is about 280 square meters, two stories, and is located at the Al Mansoura street west of Karni crossing east of the Al Sheja'ia neighborhood east of Gaza City. The shell that hit the house did not explode and hit three walls of the second floor. The police arrived to the scene of the attack. According to the police, the unexploded shell was a flechette. According to Al Mezan's field information, the house hosts 21 persons; 13 of them are children. Flechette bombs killed three Palestinian civilians in a small field close to the border with Israel in Beit Hanoun on 14 September 2010. This suggests that flechette bombs are posing great threats to civilians life in areas close to the border.
